fade is a Japanese-American rock band formed in New York in 1991 by members Rui (drums), Kansei (rhythm guitar) and Noriyuki (bass). Lead guitarist 5° (pronounced Godo, real name Shingo Terasawa) joined later in 1999 after the other members relocated to Tokyo. Later, in 2001, vocalist Jon Underdown also joined the lineup, who was an exchange student in Tokyo at the time. In 2002, the group made their official debut as fade under UMG Japan.

Jon described fade’s sound as the ‘California roll of rock’ - a fusion of eastern and western influences resulting in a unique style.

About this site

This site was made with the intention of gathering as much info on fade as humanly possible, and more importantly, preventing it from becoming lost media. fade is very niche, to the point where it’s nigh impossible to find their music outside of Japan, let alone find it in quality suitable for archival. If you happen to have any media marked as ‘lost’ or ‘lossy’, please contact me on Bluesky or Discord!
